Here's a simple guide to how to play Candy Crush Saga.
Candy Crush Saga begins as a simple match three board game and gradually, by adding various obstacles and difficulties, becomes more and more challenging.

At the start the boards are fairly straightforward and the object is to score a minimum number of points.
Play consists of matching 3 or more candies of the same colour by switching them around.
The image below shows three possible switches.
The best switch in this instance is to move the blue candy in the centre to the right to make a line of four.
This will give a special striped candy which is explained in the Candy Combinations post.
A mainstay of the obstacles, which appears fairly early in the game and continues throughout, is Jelly!
Below you will see the middle block of squares is a lighter colour, this is jelly!
In all levels containing jelly it has to be removed..
To remove the jelly you simply need to match the candies contained in the jelly.
The example above has only ONE layer of jelly.
Below is an example of a double layer of jelly, which has to be matched TWICE to remove it.
In the picture above the GREEN arrow shows jelly which has already been hit ONCE.
The WHITE arrow shows jelly which has not yet been hit.
Once all the jelly has been cleared totally the game is over.
As well as clearing the jelly you must accumulate enough points to get at least one star.
Watch the meter on the left of the game to see your points accumulate.

Not always the best move. It is random. Since it is not timed, take a look and see if there is a better move.
i'm unclear as to what the striped candies do and how to move them.

If you combine two striped candies of any colour they will clear a horizontal AND vertical line!(from candycrushsagaallhelp.blogspot.de)
You can also combine a striped candy with two (or more) candies of the same colour (ie a blue striped candy with two or more basic blue ones) and it will clear the horizontal OR the vertical line.

What do the red,blue, and yellow stars mean above each level I have completed. Some have one star, some two, some three?
How do you physically switch the candies? To switch I have been clicking the original candy and then clicking the one right next to it which I wish to switch it with. The candy's 'swerve' a little, as if they are going to switch, but they don't actually switch, instead they remain in their exact same original positions:/

Only check lives 2 or 3 at a time...if you click check all, it only records 5 at a time and you lose all the rest of them!

the wraps do not have to be purple ... they can be any color
Anyone have anything you can help me with to get off level 105?

That's your point ranking. Sometimes you score lots of points during that level and get three stars, sometimes only one. Notice the point bar at the bottom of the screen when playing the level, it shows the stars and the points needed to reach it.
Play the never ending Candy mania with hundreds of levels and the
fun part is they are completely free to play ,except some optional
in-game purchases asking for payment.
