Hints and tips showing how to pass level 2897 Candy Crush Saga without boosters by Cookie
The cake bomb at the bottom is the key to this level, it must be cleared, but the surrounding licorice make it harder to clear.
First clear as much jelly as you can whilst at the same time unlocking the locked licorice beside the cake bomb.
Once the locked licorice is mobile it can drop through the portals and into the top of the board where it can be cleared.
The licorice will keep dropping down and protecting the cake from your combos, so in order to hit the cake you need to clear some licorice until there is none above the cake, then use a combo to hit the cake before any more licorice drops. This can be very tricky to do as the licorice often drops down before your combo hits the cake.
If you can clear licorice and hit the cake in the same move it can be successful, but if you clear licorice you must hit the cake on the next move or the licorice will drop again.
The mystery candies are very useful on level 2897 as they will often give you fish, which will clear the jellies in the bottom where there are no candies, but only if there is no licorice on them.

Am I playing the same level? I can hit the licorice over the cake wheel and then have the very next move be a stripe or combo to hit the cake wheel but licorice ALWAYS forms right beforehand. There's no way to hit the cake except with fish. No way this is not a hard level.

Hmmm I've cleared the licorice several times, then hit the cake with a stripe with no effect. Game acts like there's an invisible licorice in the way LOL.
Same here. Stripes go through the cake without any effect, even if there's no licorice in the way. How can I beat the level if stripes are of no use?

What is a freckle? Why don't the fish hit the cake?
The striped candies only "appear" to do no good with the cake. In reality, the stupid licorice come out at the last moment and mess things up---hard to see. That make this ridiculously hard unless you have a lot of "luck" again.
Now, not only do you have to wait for a lucky board, you also have to wait for CC to decide not to cheat. I have hit the cake numerous times without any licorice blocking it and it does nothing. It also blows right thru chocolate and jelly without clearing it. No point in even setting up moves. Just have to wait till it decides to not cheat.
I don't know how you're supposed to win this one. The stripes don't do anything to clear the cake and barely the jelly. I have not once cleared the cake yet. Somebody please help me.

My mystery candies must not know about fish. They keep turning into blockers.
And how about these low time countdown bombs?
Not to mention caged licorice and licorice that keeps dropping and blocking the cake.
Playing on PC cannot reset until two Colour Bombs are together.

I agree with the others who posted about the stripes and combos not hitting the cake. It looks as though there is an invisible blockage but in the video, Cookie has no trouble hitting the cake. What gives King? I can understand players frustration after awhile. The levels need to match Cookie's video not only in the amount of turns but also the ability to play without purchasing a lot of boosters in order to win.
