Hints and tips showing how to pass level 3988 Candy Crush Saga without boosters by Cookie
Level 3988 is a score level, you need to score as many points as possible in the moves available to pass the level, 350,000 is the minimum needed at the time of writing.
There is no need to clear the cakes to complete the level so don't waste moves trying, however you do need to clear some of the blockers down each side to give you more space to work and make the special candies you need.
You should look for colourbombs whenever possible and use them to hit the bombs in the bottom part of the board, this is the only way you will get the score needed as it is very high for the number of moves.
There are stripes dropping from dispensers at each side of the board once the blockers are cleared out of the way and these will clear the top cakes as you use them. If the board shuffles, which it often does, it is worthwhile clearing one of the cakes as this will bring more bombs onto the board at the bottom. When the bombs are shuffled to the top you have no choice but to match them and this won't give you a very god score so better to get rid of them all and get a new lot of bombs by clearing a cake.
Once you have cleared one of the cakes you shouldn't get any more shuffles as the board will be a lot bigger, so you can concentrate on looking for colourbombs.

Start with cb combo using a hand switch. Out of nowhere got a hold bow! In turn get a pinata and blasted the 4 cakes. The rest is history. Forward crush! (^.^)

Help! Candy Crush has suddenly stripped me of my identity, all my boosters, all my ranking, put me in a new grouping. Everything has turned to ashes. I am at level 3579. Can anybody tell me what has happened and how to fix it?

Finally done full bot started with 2cb together then used stripes to clear 3 cakes then was lucky to get 2 CB dropping & finished level with 1 move left 😀

This is nuts. I have infinite cookout bombs and stripes at the moment and have even tried with three bombs at the start - I get no where. I’ve blown multiple

Hey King, thanks for the 6 hours of a colorbomb and a wrap/ stripe, but it still didn't help me pass this ridiculous level. I got no where even close to 400,000!

This is definetley NOT doable without boosters. Started with cb+cb, 3 extra moves, got lucky and got two cb again to combine. All cakes gone - still not near 400 000 points. Had to use a handswitch to make one more kombination, after that I passed it. Finally. But with a lot of boosters and extreme luck!!!!

I played this level for approx 3 days constant and got nowhere. I then figured the strategy (well, what I think). Start with 2 colour balls if possible but this is not imperative. The key is opening up the board to make colour balls and it is important to clear the two walls to allow the stripes to drop. If you can clear both top two cakes then this will assist with space but you NEED to make colour balls. Please observe the most SAME COLOUR BOMBS below and then clear the same colour candy above. This is what makes the score increase. I did not hit a bomb and colour ball together but it’s not necessary, just observe the bombs with he most colour. The target was 400,000 and I scored over 500,000.

The Buddy Bot is when you play (and win) 7 times in a row. It's easier to go down to a lower level so you don't risk losing a life.
When you have 'won' 7 times you will get 2CB, 2 Strip/Wrap, 3 Xtra moves.
The bad news is that today it isn't available.
Even when you beat a level you don't earn a Booster (CB)
Needed only 350.000.points,destroyed only 3 cakes and had 350.800 with the last tiny explosions. First try, huge luck and also had full bot, so it's not so comparable to those trying without boosters. I started with Cb+Wrap because I was too lazy to reset until I have cb/CB combo. But I think the latter was better.
For the first time in ages...I was on a roll today, blasting through 5 levels. I was all set up to beat this one with double color bombs next to each other and multiple striped & wrapped. Absolutely perfectly laid out!!! Wouldn't you know it? My app froze and crashed!!! Coincidence? I think not. This is such BS!!!! King sucks! And I will not purchase anything from them ever again. My thing that I would purchase, once in a while, was the piggy bank full of 60 gold bars. Now that it's down to 30, they can shove it. This company gets greedier and greedier every day. I've been playing this game for over 4 years now, and it is so obvious. I urge everyone out there...DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM KING!!! Especially, the piggy bank!!!! One thing I've learned after all these years of playing is the longer you play a level...eventually, it will fall into place and you will beat it. Be patient, don't get frustrated, DON'T GIVE THEM ANYMORE $$$$

I finally passed this one after a days. Like I said before, all of a sudden it all just fell into place, no boosters, and passed it. I am now on 3995, and it is very much like this one, ugh! Just a heads up.

The level is not impossible and it is doable without starting with double colour bombs from space dash etc.
I used one hand swap to make a colour bomb and swapped that with the same colour as the most bombs (as we all know by now that's the only way to get the big scores).
I only cleared one cake along the way. The key is to open up the board as fast as possible so you can make a colour bomb (as Cookie said).
Maybe try starting with a wrap/stripe combo to get going, if like me, you don't have any special bots or helmets or whatever.
Help please... I don't even get 100,000... Not near enough moves.
Can someone explain to me exactly how the bow works? What makes it get to the end where you are matching a blue color? Sometimes I never leave the initial green color, or I get past the green and do purple but the blue doesn't appear. Just curious!

This level is VERY doable, even without full boosters. Re-read Cookie's tips, they are right. Just make color bombs and match them with the most prevalent countdown bomb color, do NOT make a combo with another special with them. This is the key to big score bumps in countdown bomb levels. You don't even have to clear all the cakes, although you probably will clear at least one or two by the natural play of using color bombs and clearing the blockers. Clearing the top two cakes does make more space, which allows you to make the color bombs that you need to make your score climb well above the 400,000 mark (or whatever the current level is, I think mine was 500,000 or 550,000 last night). It's still 60. It just lets you buy it once it hits 30. Which I agree would be dumb. Just ignore it until it's completely filled.
I'm calling BS on the video that accompanies this post!!!! If you watch carefully, the player has only 2 moves left with 188,000. They switch one colorbomb, and suddenly they climb to 422,000 points?!?!? No way that this is legit!
Sorry KING this level is more than ridiculous. I have played this on android and iPhone and got mostly nowhere. Once or twice getting close but never busting the 350,000 mark. Presumably at this point it took pity on me and gave me the lucky board and i sailed through with 826,300. This game isn't "chill and relax" nor any of the other phrases used. You should retitle it "get stressed" "not yet frustrated enough..." or "fancy throwing your phone over the other side of the room".I'm pleased to be through but come on evaluate these levels properly

This level is BS! I've used boosters and have gotten close. Not enough moves. Can't collect the keys because they are blocked by the locked licorice. Even using a color bomb to start does nothing!

This is nonsense. I broke all 4 cakes, got all the bombs TWICE, an extra couple of cb’s appeared in the game plus various specials - and I still didn’t get enough points ! ... WTH?

Game has changed…. Still WAY FRUSTRATING!!! Only requires 80,000 points now with 26 turns. Difficult to break 40K, even with cb. Fingers crossed for a lucky game board to come my way soon.
