Hints and tips showing how to pass level 5174 Candy Crush Saga without boosters by Cookie
Level 5174 Candy Crush Saga is an orders level, you have to collect licorice to complete the level. The licorice drops from the dispensers near the bottom of the board, but only when there is space for them to drop.
First you need to clear some of the blockers to keep the candies dropping, you are able to make matches across the portals near the top of the board so this can be helpful to make special candies and combos.
The hardest part of this level is getting enough licorice to drop as it won't drop the next move after you have collected some using a normal match. However clearing the licorice with the blast from a combo will not stop more from dropping, so this is what you need to look for. Colourbomb combos are always best and as long as no licorice is cleared by the switch you will collect lots and more will drop as it is cleared.
You'll need to play very carefully to complete level 5174 but it is possible to complete the level without boosters as the video below shows.

Looks like the normal rules about the licorice drops have been abandoned for ... erm...we'll drop when we want to...
Other levels the damn stuff just floods the board...
I can play moves above section and below section and not hit the black stuff for 3 or 4 moves...loads of space for the drop, and they just don't.
Or if they do, you get one or two when the whole section is clear.
Then for some reason...they all drop.
I am just going to go for the smash everything in site rules and hope for the best.

Finally through.
Tactics... first off, the black doesn't drop after 1 move of not hitting them (the 2nd move after not hitting them minimum)
Next, I found any boosters useless. So go no boosters.
Then play every move without ever hitting the licorice with the move. Every move or you'll run out. Set up switches to hit. If you have a good switch like cb with something or stripe wrap combo...never use it until more has dropped. make nothing moves. Then use the switch.
eventually when there is enough to beat the level. Only then go for the stuff. 1 move left.

This is ridiculous, I have tried and tried but cannot figure out how to make the licorice drop ? If I hit some .. none drops if I dont hit any ... none drops Posting for a lucky board

This level sucks! BUT....the tactics posted above are absolutely the way to go on this one! It requires strategy (a lucky board wouldn’t hurt either). I’m still not through but getting closer and closer. Follow the instructions above!

É possÃvel que alguém consiga concluir este nÃvel? Não consegue, porque ninguém entende o que acontece, é um jogo ridÃculo e idiota. Qual o motivo para perder tempo com isto que não nos leva a nada. Parei, não vou perder meu tempo aqui com este jogo manipulado e fraudulento.
Realmente não existe lógica neste nÃvel, se não acerta o alcaçuz não caem mais, se acerta também não caem. Na verdade o alcaçuz só cairá e serão destruÃdos quando o CC permitir. Os jogadores agora não tem mais função aqui.

Maybe Cookie's tips are great & Kazuohk played it great BUT I have watched video & reread tips several times & NOT understanding at all. I must be dumb so How about a LUCKY BOARD to compensate.

How is this not considered an extra hard level! There is no rhyme or reason to this board. Clearly they want you to buy extra moves! So frustrating!
I couldn't make sense of how the licorice worked in this level. Then I came here and found that I should focus on NOT hitting the licorice, and instead on making combos to hit the licorice. It worked the first time I tried it, with 0 moves left.
Tricky level to get your head around. After a couple of games where I only needed a few more licorice I added a check mark booster. That did the trick. Good Luck. Flash.
