Candy Crush Saga Level 617 Tips and video

Hints and tips showing how to pass level 617 Candy Crush Saga without boosters by Cookie.
Level 617 has been made quite a bit easier as it now has waffles in the place of the cream blockers it used to have.
Try to make moves in the bottom section whenever you can, otherwise you will have to look for stripes and colourbombs in the top section which can be used to clear the jellies in the left side of the board. The waffles will drop as you play and can be cleared fairly easily as you make moves beside them.
The tricky sections are at the top left and bottom right so take any chance you get to clear these jellies using stripes and stripe/wrap combos or colourbombs.
There are now only 5 colours on the board so it shouldn't be too hard to make the special candies and combos you need to clear the level.

Wow - NASTY!! I've gotten close but still haven't finished it even with the paintbrush charm! Multiple hammers will do the trick but...

This level is getting boring. I have been on it for 2 days now and always end up with 4 or 5 jellies left. Time to move on. I need a lucky board. I don't believe in using the cheats.

I've never been able to say this before, but, I got very lucky and beat this on my 3rd try - yay! Got a really good board that allowed me to open up the top left-hand corner and special candies that finished the rest, including 2 different combos of stripe/wrap.

Frustrating. Three days and lots of lives and not even lose to completing. Ready to give up.

Just before I got to this level on Saturday, I was like wow the new levels are too easy, then this level came up. I've played a bunch of times so far. I came close a few times but I refuse to buy any moves. I only have two hammers. I suppose I'll have to wait until I gather up a couple of more hammers with the wheel.

What an ugly level... I've got 2 hammers ready to use but I always end with 3 jellies at least... 4 days already, ugh.

I have been on this level for days now. I have played it hundreds of times. I have bought extra moves which have not helped. I refuse to buy any more. I have no hammers. I am about ready to call it quits. I really need a lucky board.

Anonymous said...

An awful level! Based on painful experience, share the view that you might as well quit if you can't open the upper triangle in the first step. Combos won't help unless they are located strategically to clear the two narrow ends of the upper triangle.

another next to impossible level!

I finally passed this level. I finally tried working on the bottom section first since they were the hardest to clear. I tried making stripes to help set off some of the top section. It took me several days and 100's of lives. I am glad to be done with it.

Another pure luck level, because you need a good board to open up the right triangle quickly. Combos are hard to come by, and they always don't do much. Even sparkly/stripe combos don't do much and leave a lot of jelly. I got a bunch of friends to send me three extra moves to use, but that didn't help either. Once, I had single jellies in the rightmost column and no others, and a vertical-firing stripe in that column ready to go when I ran out of moves. This is top-five hardest levels I've encountered so far (and I'm stuck on level 123 of Dreamworld too, so not much fun).

Start at the bottom or top, no matter, it is only luck that beats this one. I actually had several resuffles on my winning board before getting lucky with a stripe that opened up the top cream. Took about 80 tries to pass.

Anonymous said...

Finally got it on the 65th attempt. I got lucky with a great sparkly/striped combo that left me with just six well-scattered jellies to go, and three of them had yellow candies on them. I got another sparkly against a regular yellow and that cleared those three and one more in a cascade. I needed to use the "swapping hand" booster to set up the meld to get the last jelly, the first booster I needed in about the last thirty levels. A lot of luck is needed, especially in the opening to get melds that can clear the cream in the top row. Wrapped/striped and striped/sparkly combos are essential too; otherwise, it is just too hard to clear the pointy ends of the triangles.

Another nastey one for sure.

This is the first horrible level since 578!

Just finished level 620 and it says there are no more levels yet. When are they putting up new ones ???

Anonymous said...

617 was hard but I did it now just done 620 and run out of games again lol

Anonymous said...

This level is a cousin to level 608... a deceptively hard level. Open up the board with a lot of combos to reach the target score. With luck and patient, it can be done... Have fun

Anonymous said...

Ugh! Tough one! I wish they add the candy frog here. Maybe then I could beat this level... Please?

Anonymous said...

Soon after I posted my comment (candy frog), I got super delicious board and beat this level! I believe commenting this site give you a lucky break. Try it;)

Anonymous said...

This level is boring. It needs a frog to liven it up a bit:0 AS

Phew finished it with 1 hammer which i got from daily booster wheel.Took me several days more than 50 lives. Was unable to open the top board until 38th move.Once the board was open made 2 wrapped+striped which got me through corner jellies.. Rest was Easy with one sparkly candy

Been stuck now for 2 weeks.... Way over this lvl.... Way over candy crush

Anonymous said...

Spent 2 weeks on this and a few times got down to 1 or 2 jellies.....grrrr
Finally managed to take out the final 2 jellies on my last move with fish. Phew

Completed with the help of some bonus hammers, very difficult.

This is definitely tough - I finally cracked it. My strategy adds to the one that says make sure you can open the top of the right hand triangle.

My tip 1. I found that I got closer much more often if I cracked open the first of the cream on the top row (i.e. the third position across on top left). The benefit of this is that it opens up the difficult top left corner.

My tip 2. Also take note of the colour of the candy second from the top left. If you arrange matching colour in one of the three nearby positions to that one's right, that also helps.
(a) If the matching candy is in the third along (i.e. right next to the second top left so that both second and third are the same colour), then activity down the bottom triangle can bring the happy match through for you.
(b) Another option is having a "nearby match" for that top-second candy. Meaning a colour match (for that second candy) next to the third candy (below or right of the third candy). This means you could swap with that third candy, so it's great to keep that matching candy "on hand". Keep an eye out when you are working below. If top left suddenly matches second top left, then you can bring in that nearby matching candy. It's one more step than if it were already matched in the third position, but still I found it useful to keep an eye on this.

My tip 3. Also the top left corner of the bottom triangle is difficult. So keep an eye on this and match whenever you can.

My tip 4. Even if there are enticing specials on in that top right triangle - ignore them! Even colour bombs - they don't even crush adjacent cream.. Hard to ignore, but it's best to do that. Every now and then, I would see something really great over there and would venture onwards, hoping that would be great. It never was! Ignore those!! :)

Overall - a tough level. However, I didn't find it as painful as some other tough levels.

Using my strategy above, I was getting to six or less candies quite often. Even though it still took me lots of tries, it didn't feel like a horrible endeavour that was going nowhere..

In my view, what makes the hard ones the most nasty is when you never get remotely close. For me, I don't mind hard levels when you can get close - in fact, I quite like the fact that there are a few with a challenge. I think quite a lot of crushers this far into the game would be like that. The levels just have to be not too pointless and boring..

Added note to above: my tip 4 relates to the opening board. After that, of course go for all the specials you can!!

Sorry about that..

Was a tough one. Have to admit, when I got it down to 1 left and no way to get it, I did use a lollipop hammer that I got with the free spin. Janine Marie

I was just about to exit the game for the umpteenth time as I didn't break the creams but the game reshuffled and I managed to get down to one jelly ... the moral of this post is ,don't exit the game early ,my best chance so far has come from a reshuffle anything can happen .thatisall .

I don't know how many times I have tried this level! Have come close maybe three out of 60 times.. Ugh!! Making sure you can open up the top level was a good hint, otherwise your wasting your time!

Hard levels can be fun, and a challenge. But this level is a boring stupid. No challenge at all since I have everytime again only one possible move.
Didnt pass it yet.. So i just have to try and try on automatic pilot untill the game allows me to pass it. On of the stupiest levels of all

I have to say after getting to this level with so much experience this has GOT to be the most BORING level!! sure it takes some luck and I never thought I would say I would prefer bombs or chocolates because it would take some thought! BORING< BORING!!!! Previous levels gave us excitement and combo's, this is just a FREAKING BORE!!!! I have to stop and pace myself from going to sleep!! BORING!! HELLO did you hear me?? BORING!!! FIRE the DUDE that CREATED this one!!! DID I mention
BORING???

Anonymous said...

OK so I made the comment above and I am still sticking to it!! This is still the most boring level yet! WTF were you thinking?? I am falling asleep trying to beat this! It's so boring I can't stand it anymore!! Give me some combo's to at least make it challenging! WTH!!

Anonymous said...

Very boring level. Needs a frog or something lively to spice it up.

Anonymous said...

Very boring level agreed. Down to 1 and 3 ... frustrating part is making damaging combos. The rare sprinkle/stripe only to leave those few in unreachable spots!! Grrr

Anonymous said...

Frustrating level, I have been on this level for 3 full days. I did not understand how to use the frog, but now that I have this is a level where the frog is needed BAD!! This is the first level where I am saying for the first time, I AM READY TO QUIT. After all, I have made it to level 617, maybe it is time to quit.

Pffff. This one pisses me off. Pointless board this one. Not even close sofar

cherylcandycrush here

Hard. The introduction at the top sums it up.

* No matter what other great moves you can see, at the very start, have a look at the top of the right hand side and see if you can break some of the top cream squares. Even one will be a help! Preferably one in the middle, but a row of three would be nice. If you can't take out even one, then go to the left hand bottom and make some moves there to try to make a vertical stripe you can detonate to shoot up and make a hole.
Or pray for a reshuffle.
If you don't get a hole early on in that right hand side, it will be virtually impossible to get through.

*You will need a couple of special combos, most likely, to clear out enough to get close.

* If you want to use one of your freebies to help out, I found the fish did well on this level. They never got me through, but they got me close and it is the gift that keeps on giving. After you use your first fish, another comes along, then another.

* This is one of those games where you can fail to get the score as well as fail to clear the jelly. BUT if your score is over the pass mark and you get down to only one jelly left, or even two, use your lollipop hammers, don't much around.

*I was on it a few days. Unless you clear a bit at the top fairly smartly, I think you will struggle, but good luck-and don't be afraid to use a booster such as fish, hand or lollipop hammer.

Another horribly difficult level! And it's worse because it goes on forever- 50 moves. I don't want to give up too early in case I get lucky, but yeah, it goes on forever!

Anonymous said...

As noted in original post, don't bother to play a game unless the first move allows you to clear a cream in the top row of the right side. If not, back out of game and start a new game without loss of a life. As described in tip #2 of July comment, second priority is to find ways to clear top left corner. Next priority is to choose the moves that will clear any of the various corners. Next is to choose moves that clears cream. But take opportunities to make combos. And if you have choice of wrapped or striped, I go for wrapped. And then save it to further combine with a striped or another wrapped. After reading the tips on this page, I completed the level in just a few games with 15 moves left. Though I did use hammer lollipop and I had backed out of about twice as many games as I played.

I enjoyed this level. It took me 10 attempts but I did get lucky with a sprinkle and then a second sprinkle which I was able to match with a stripe. I had had no sprinkles at all before this.

Sprinkles are as rare as hens teeth and stripes are few and far between, as are wraps.

I focused on the tricky squares mentioned in previous comments - but really, it is important to look at and maximise each move before you click as really there are just not enough moves to get it out. The closest I got without the sprinkles was 6 jellies. I usually start using daily spin free boosters at attempt 15 and I think I would have gone for the fish in the hope they get to the tricky jellies or be matched with one of those rare stripes/wraps.

One of the dumbest levels ever created. The programmer should be ashamed of their work. No skill here at all, just plain dumb luck. Boring as heck.

Anonymous said...

Been playing this level on and off for 4 months, WTF!

Anonymous said...

The most boring pointless level ever. Unless you get a great starting board you may as well kiss it goodbye as it is not going to happen. I cannot see the point in simply matching candy in the bottom board for a whole game as there were virtually no moves to be made to create stripes or other special candy to break up the top box. I can see myself quitting CC over this level very soon as I am totally fed up with it.

Anonymous said...

Arrived on this level yesterday, had about at least 20 attempts and was about to bash the keyboard! Dumbest level ever.

Toddled over here and read the tips. The only one that made sense to me was that the right triangle needs a good opener otherwise you can kiss the game goodbye and start again!

So off I went back to the game - got a chance to make a color bomb but the striped candy was two places away. There with two jellies still, and only 2 moves left! .I had enoiugh by then, so used two boosts... not proud!;)

the hand (swap) and lollypop hammer and voila I made it,

OK, over 100 lives and several days. Enough is enough! Time for a decent board CC, PLEASE!!

Unknown said...

I have gotten close but of course that's not good enough...the only thing worse is that they could have thrown in some bombs but that may be coming too...grrrrrrrr!!

Anonymous said...

This level is just so boring having to depend totally on whatever board you get. I think I'm done with candy crush now.

Anonymous said...

Another horrible level... Someone said posting a comment here will help clearing this.. So here I am posting a comment to clear this frustrating level...

Unknown said...

Sadly the only way to win is by using boosters. Took 5 hammers. Most games let you get to 3-4 jellies left then stop giving u moves to get to them. A Cheat game.

Anonymous said...

Mindless tinking of candies with no strategy involved. Stupid and idiotic not to mention boring. All the things that equate to abandoning Candy Crush altogether. Refuse to buy any boosters from King crooks.

Anonymous said...

Thanks to this level I just uninstalled Candy Crush from my Facebook. Never had the mobile version so nothing left to do. King, you lost another customer. Adios.

BEEN ON THIS FOR MONTHS...DOES SOMEONE HAVE A SOLUTION TO GETS THROUGH
